About Shannon:

Shannon’s high school career included qualifying for state volleyball her senior year. This earned her 3rd Team All-State honors and an invitation to the Senior All-Star Classic. She played club at IPVA her junior year and they earned a bid to Nationals. Fellow PowerPlex coach, Emilio Mendoza was one of her coaches that year. Shannon continued her playing career at Simpson College where she was a four year starter at middle and outside hitter. She was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015. She still ranks in the top 10 in career blocks, aces, kills, hitting percentage and digs; and is among 1 of 7 seven players in school history to reach 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career. 

Shannon coached at Indianola Volleyball Club and Urbandale Volleyball Club during her college career. In 2007, Stewart and Crissy Nelson started Iowa PowerPlex. Stewart was a co-director and coach until she left the program in 2010. She became the Assistant Varsity Coach at Waukee High School under fellow Iowa PowerPlex coach, Ed Brogean. During this time she helped run the Waukee Volleyball Club. Shannon came back to PowerPlex in 2016 and has been coaching teams, running lessons and helping coach programs since. In 2023 her 14-1 team won ShowMe in the American division to earn a bid to nationals.
