Meet our lesson coaches

  • Emilio Mendoza

    All Skills•Program Development•10U–18U

    Coaching since 2000, Emilio has led programs at the high school, collegiate, and club levels, including founding IPVA and Central Iowa Select. As PowerPlex's Director of Coaching, he oversees training across every age group and has guided teams to USAV Nationals in several recent seasons. In 2001, he was one of just 33 coaches nationwide invited to USA Volleyball's Olympic Training Center for the HP Pipeline program.

  • Logan Wilson

    Setting • Defense • Passing • All Skills • 12U–15U

    Logan's volleyball career began at Colfax-Mingo, where she earned three varsity letters as part of a four-sport athletic career, and continued at Central College through club and intramural volleyball. She holds a BA in psychology from Central College and a Master's in School Counseling from Capella University. As a coach, she led a Pearl City Power 13u team to three gold medals — the most in program history — and later guided Dallas Center-Grimes's 13u club team to an AAU state gold bracket appearance with a 28-7 record, followed by an undefeated 8th grade season. Logan joined PowerPlex in 2024, bringing a strong volleyball coaching pedigree to the program.

  • Katrina Chambliss

    Katrina was a four-year varsity starter and six-rotation player at Regina High School, starting club volleyball at age 11 and playing club throughout her high school career while also earning four years of Academic All-Conference honors. She continued at Iowa State University, earning a Bachelor's in Business Management while playing intramural volleyball, and began her coaching career during college with Gilbert Middle School's 7th grade team. After college, she served as JV Head Coach and Varsity Assistant at Regina High School while coaching club at Adrenaline Volleyball Club, where her 2024 17's team qualified for USAV Nationals in the American division. Katrina joined PowerPlex in 2024 and continues to stay active in the sport through private lessons and local sand and indoor adult leagues.

  • Ed Brogean

    Ed's playing career began at Clarke College, where he was a four-year letterwinner and senior-year team MVP, and he still ranks in the school's top 10 in kills, blocks, service aces, and attack percentage — an accomplished career that earned him induction into the Clarke College Hall of Fame in 2017. He went on to play professionally in the Netherlands and Ireland before returning to Des Moines. Ed built a strong coaching résumé at Dyersville Beckman, Waukee High School (back-to-back state tournament appearances), and Van Meter High School (2017 Conference Coach of the Year after turning a 9-19 team into a 21-9 squad), before joining PowerPlex in 2015. Since then, he's guided numerous teams to USAV and AAU Nationals, including a 2023 17-1 team that earned two national bids and a 2024 18's team that placed 3rd at AAU Nationals in the Open Division.

  • Natalie Sieck

    Natalie earned multiple trips to state and qualified for Girls Jr Nationals during her high school career at Ankeny, playing club at several programs including a year with Iowa PowerPlex's 18u team at just 16 years old, while also helping run camps and coaching through AVBA. She continued her playing career at Kansas City-Kansas and Iowa State before transferring to William Penn University, where she played her final two seasons and earned her degree Cum Laude. Natalie joined PowerPlex in 2019 and has since guided multiple teams to USAV Nationals, including bids in 2021, 2022, 2024, and 2025. Her 2024 12u team competed in the Patriot Division at USAV Nationals, finishing 35th.

  • Natalia Mendieta

    Natalia was a four-year starting setter at Oswego East High School, earning All-Tournament and All-Conference honors while holding school records for assists and aces per season. She continued her career at Delaware State University, earning All-Tournament honors at the Hofstra Invitational and ranking 7th nationally in NCAA D1 for aces per set. Natalia has coached at clubs across the Des Moines area since 2012, including developing curriculum and training coaches at Ohana, before joining PowerPlex in 2023. In 2024, her and Kelly Nelsen's 17u team double-qualified for USAV Nationals and placed 3rd in the USA division, with two players earning All-Tournament honors.

  • Alyssa Mueller

    Alyssa was a three-sport athlete at Johnston High School, earning varsity letters in volleyball and golf, and continued playing intramural volleyball at Wartburg College while earning her degree in International Business. Prior to PowerPlex, she coached at Urbandale Volleyball Club and later started and ran her own club, Mojo. Alyssa joined PowerPlex in 2016 and has led the program's Jr. Training since 2018, building out all lesson plans and scheduling while specializing in coaching 14u and 15u teams. In 2024, her and Sophia Volk's 14u team placed 4th at regionals to earn a USAV Nationals bid, finishing 23rd in the Liberty division.

  • Morgan Mclaughlin

    Morgan played four years of volleyball in high school as a two-year letterwinner at DS/L, competing for Iowa PowerPlex during her club seasons while also participating in softball, bowling, and tennis. She continued her volleyball career at Simpson College for two years before shifting her focus to coaching, earning her degree in Accounting and Business Management cum laude. Morgan began coaching her senior year of high school through Waukee Volleyball Club and continued through Indianola Volleyball Club during college. She joined Iowa PowerPlex in 2019, where she primarily coaches 15u and under while also running club programs and private lessons.

  • Hannah Goodwin

    Hannah was a four-year varsity starter at Des Moines Roosevelt, earning letters in both volleyball and track with multiple all-conference selections, and made three national appearances during her six years playing club at IPVA. She continued her athletic career at Graceland University, playing volleyball for three years and competing in track, where she qualified for indoor nationals twice in the 60m hurdles. An injury forced her to opt out of both sports her senior year, leading her to start coaching in 2017. Hannah coached at IPVA for six years, guiding teams to top finishes at MLK and regionals, before joining PowerPlex in 2023.

  • Leigha McQuade

    Leigha was a four-year letterwinner in soccer and two-year starter in volleyball at Marion High School, helping lead her team to the 2008 3A State Championship — the first in school history. She began coaching during her college years at Kirkwood Community College and Upper Iowa University, building an extensive résumé across top high school and club programs in Iowa. Her career highlights include a 1st place finish at the 2020 Omaha Presidents' Day Classic with Club Ignit, multiple top-5 Iowa Regionals finishes, and helping guide Dowling Catholic to eight consecutive state tournament appearances, including a 2023 state runner-up finish. Leigha joined Iowa PowerPlex in 2024, bringing over a decade of coaching experience to the program.
