About Ed:

Ed started his playing career at Clarke College where he was a four year member, earning himself MVP of the team by his senior year. He led the East Division in blocks and kills, and still ranks in the top 10 in kills, service aces, attack attempts, career solo blocks, total blocks, kills per set, block assists and attack percentage in school history. Ed played professionally in the Netherlands and Ireland before returning back to Des Moines. Ed was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Clarke College in 2017 for his outstanding athletic career.

Ed started his coaching career at Court Masters in Dubuque. He then coached at Dyersville Beckman where his team was the class 2A semi-finalist. Ed coached at his alma mater as a student assistant coach before moving to Des Moines. He coached four years at Waukee High School, taking them to back to back state tournament appearances his first two years. Many of Ed’s former players currently coach or have coached at Iowa PowerPlex.  After Waukee, he coached at Van Meter High School, turning the program from a 9-19 record to a 21-9 record, earning him Conference Coach of the year in 2017. Ed joined PowerPlex in 2015 and has taken teams to nationals 3 times in his short tenure. In 2023,  Ed’s 17-1 team won Northern Lights Qualifier and Iowa Regionals, earning them two bids to Nationals. HIs 18’s team also earned a bid by winning the Southeast Qualifier in Atlanta.
