About Shannon

Shannon (Perry) Wieland continued her playing career as a 4 year starting setter at UNI. Her incredible career earned her being inducted in the UNI Hall of Fame twice. Once in 2015 as an individual and in 2018 as a member of 1999 UNI volleyball team (which was the first time in school history). In 2000, she represented the state of Iowa as a nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award. 

She has been a Setting and Assistant Varsity Coach at Valley High School, collectively for 17 years, leading them to qualify for state 8 times. Prior to joining PowerPlex in 2023, she coached club for 6 years with 3 teams qualifying for Nationals. In 2024, Shannon and Emilio Mendoza’s 16u team placed 3rd at ShowMe, earning them a bid to USAV Nationals. They competed in the USA Division and placed 13th. In 2025, Shannon and Melanie Lane’s 17u team earned 3 USAV Nationals bids. Their first bid was earned at Sunshine in the USA Division by placing 3rd. The second bid came when they won Northern Lights in the USA Division. They increased their bid to a National bid by winning Iowa Regionals.

  • University of Northern Iowa: 2-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, 3 time First-Team Academic all-MVC honoree. First UNI volleyball player to earn Division I All-American (2nd team) AVCA honors in 1999. 2-time UNI Hall of Fame inductee.

  • DMU: Doctorate in Physical Therapy
