About Karissa

Karissa continued her volleyball career at Benedectine University where she played one year until she had a career ending injury. This turned her passion from playing into coaching. Prior to joining PowerPlex, Karissa coached and helped direct a club in NW Illinois. Her duties included tournament directing, team coaching, curriculum development, and master coaching. She was the Assistant Varsity and Head JV Coach at her alma mater, Eastland High for 5 years. Karissa moved to Des Moines and coached club for 5 years prior to joining PowerPlex in 2023. Her focus tends to be more on training liberos and defensive curriculum. 

Educational and Athletic Background 

• Eastland High School (IL): 2 time state volleyball champion, 4 year varsity letter winner in volleyball and softball, Team captain senior year

• Benedictine University: Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, Summa Cum Laude, Varsity Volleyball Player

• Drake University: Doctor of Occupational Therapy Degree, Magna Cum Laude
